    Description

This barrette is handmade from cow horn probably by Sr. Prudencio Manjarrez of San Antonio la Isla, Mexico State, Mexico. Sr. Prudencio is a master of this skill, using different templates to carve all kinds of whimsical pieces. This piece is carved in the shape of a fish, with a swan carved into the top, and decorated with painted details and flowers. Sr. Prudencio ran his own workshop and completed each piece himself. At first he made fine-toothed combs to assist with lice and knit removal, but Sr. Prudencio has helped to maintain this craft as an art form. They are now collectible items and make very special gifts.
This charming piece of authentic folk art was purchased from a collector who purchased it in Mexico. It is about 3" long and 2 inches high. It is in excellent condition and barrette is still operable and closes tightly.
